Happy New Year, everyone! I’m sorry I’ve been absent for so long. The J-Crew and I just returned from a very relaxing vacation visiting my parents in Columbus, OH. We had a wonderful time, but I’ve missed blogging!
So it’s about time I listed all of the challenges I will be partaking in. Rather than creating a post for each challenge, I decided to combine them all into one. Therefore, I will use this post to list all of the challenges I will be participating in as well as list my progress in each of the challenges. The challenges below are in no particular order.
How could I pass up this challenge, hosted by the fabulous Nicole over at Linus’s Blanket! The rules of the challenge are pretty straight-forward, simply read the books being discussed during the Twenty Minute Book Club portion of Nicole’s Blog Talk Radio Show, That’s How I Blog.
I’m going for the gold level and reading 26 books!
Amy from My Friend Amy is once again hosting the Buy One Book and Read it Challenge! I think EVERYONE should participate in this challenge because it is, by far, the easiest challenge! Basically, all you have to do is buy a book and read it! I’ll be participating at Level Three (Book Blogger) and will buy 12 books I learned about on book blogs and will read them by December 31, 2010.
Jen from Devourer of Books and Swapna from Skrishna’s Books are hosting this challenge. I’m participating in the Current Debs portion of this challenge and I have sighed up to read 3 books by the 2010 Debs. A list of all books by all members of The Debutante Ball can be found on the Debutante Ball books page.
This challenge is pretty self-explanatory! I have signed up for the “Fascinated” level and plan to read 6 E-Books!
Another challenge that is self-explanatory! I have signed up for the “Addicted” level and vow to read listen to 12 audio books!
Hosted by Michelle at Galleysmith, the Cybils Award Challenge urges you to read from The Cybils Award nominees for the given year. I will be participating in both the Fantasy & Science Fiction (YA) and the Fiction: YA categories. I plan to read at least 5 books in each of these categories.
Natasha at Maw Books, Amy at My Friend Amy, and Hannah at Word Lily are hosting the 2010 Social Justice Challenge. Here are the details:
Reading opens new worlds to us and can sometimes expose the injustice in our own. We have all been powerfully moved by the injustice we have learned about in books and decided we wanted to host a reading project that would encourage us to learn more about these issues in the world.
The details of the challenge are as follows:
- We will focus each month on a different area of social injustice in the world. During that month, we are asking that you read something from the list of resources or watch something suggested by that month’s host. That will complete step one of this challenge: Learn.
- Throughout the month we will also be posting ways you can make a difference in this area. Don’t worry, we will provide several different options at many different levels of commitment. The important thing is to take an action step towards doing something to change things! That fulfills step 2–Take Action.
Candace at Beth Fish Reads will be hosting What’s In A Name 3 Challenge with a few changes. Here’s how it works: Between January 1 and December 31, 2010, read one book in each of the following categories:
- A book with a food in the title:
- A book with a body of water in the title:
- A book with a title (queen, president) in the title:
- A book with a plant in the title:
- A book with a place name (city, country) in the title:
- A book with a music term in the title:
J. Kaye of J. Kaye’s Books in starting a new challenge, the 2010 Young Adult Reading Challenge. I am participating at the The Mini YA Reading Challenge and plan to read 12 Young Adult novels.
Book Chick City is hosting the Thriller & Suspense Challenge 2010. The rules: read 12 thrillers in 2010.
1. The First Rule by Robert Crais
2. Snow Angels by James Thompson
The aim is to read a total 20 books, over ten categories, in 2010.
- Young Adult
Any book classified as young adult or featuring a teenage protagonist counts for this category. - T.B.R. **
Intended to help reduce the old T.B.R. pile. Books for this category must be already residents of your bookshelves as of 1/11/09. - Shiny & New
Bought a book NEW during 2010 from a bookstore, online, or a supermarket? Then it counts for this category. Second-hand books do not count for this one, but, for those on book-buying bans, books bought for you as gifts or won in a giveaway also count! - Bad Blogger’s ***
Books in this category, should be ones you’ve picked up purely on the recommendation of another blogger count for this category (any reviews you post should also link to the post that convinced you give the book ago).
*** Bad Bloggers: Is hosted by Chris of Stuff as Dreams are Made on. - Charity
Support your local charity shops with this category, by picking up books from one of their shops. Again, for those on book-buying bans, books bought for you as gifts also count, as long as they were bought from a charity shop. - New in 2010
This category is for those books newly published in 2010 (whether it be the first time it is has been released, or you had to wait for it to be published in your country, it counts for this one!) - Older Than You
Read two books that were published before you were born, whether that be the day before or 100 years prior! - Win! Win!
Have a couple of books you need to read for another challenge? Then this is the category to use, as long that is, you don’t break the rules of the other challenge by doing so! - Who Are You Again?
This one isn’t just for authors you’ve never read before, this is for those authors you have never even heard of before! - Up to You!
The requirements for this category are up to you! Want to challenge yourself to read some graphic novels? A genre outside your comfort zone? Something completely wild and wacky? Then this is the category to you. The only requirement is that you state it in your sign-up post.
Ok! I think that wraps up all the new challenges I will be participating in for 2010! Now I have some book lists to make! Ahh…what a wonderful way to start off the year!
