Today’s Frightful Friday takes on a new spin. Instead of featuring a chilling book from the previous week, I’m featuring some of my favorite horror books of the year! Since this is my favorite genre, this list is quite long; I couldn’t bear to think of eliminating any of my favorites so I’ve listed them all!
- The White Devil by Justin Evans-old fashioned, gothic ghost story!
- Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion- A free-thinking, sentient zombie? A truly thought-provoking book.
- Shock Value by Jason Zinoman– Zinoman examines some of the classic horror movies throughout time and evaluates the evolution of the genre through the years.
- The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan-Not merely a book about werewolves, an examination of one man/werewolf’s acceptance with his own identity.
- Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson-a truly unique novel,”man vs. robots”
- Harbor by John Ajvide Lindqvist-an atmospheric, character-rich novel about one man’s loss.
- Dead of Night by Jonathan Maberry-another fantastic novel by the king of zombie fiction! Readers will actually fill sympathy for these walking dead!
- The Night Eternal by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan-the thrilling conclusion to the Strain Trilogy!
- The Secret of Crickley Hall by James Herbert-a true, classic, haunted house story.
- A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness-a richly illustrated book that continues to haunt my soul, months after reading it. One of my favorites of the year!!
- The Pumpkin Man by John Everson-a truly haunting book, perfect for the Halloween season. Not for the weak of heart.
- Monsters in America by W. Scott Poole -Historical and cultural studies that detail how and why these monsters became a part of our national identity
Have any favorite horror novels that I’ve overlooked? Do share!
